First Greater Dover, Kent County visitors guide released The Kent County & Greater Dover, Delaware Convention and Visitors Bureau recently released the first Kent County Tourism Visitors Guide. In the works for the past two years, the 40-page “The Official Guide to Delaware’s Capital Region: Dover and Kent County” gives a comprehensive look at the area’s attractions by breaking them into different categories and suggesting itineraries. The categories are history/heritage, outdoor recreation, arts/culture, shopping, dinning and entertainment. The guide also gives background on the attractions as well as contact information. Another feature is called “Capital Ideas,” which acts like “Did you know?” boxes, giving nuggets of information about the region and Delaware. It’s basically readers’ digest size, said Michele Robinette, public relations for Kent County Tourism, which means it’s easy for a visitor to put it in their back pocket, purse or keep it in the car. The guide allows Kent County to join New Castle and Sussex counties, which already have guides, by highlighting the area’s attractions in more detail than the previously released brochures. Robinette said last year the tourism office was awarded a matching grant from Delaware Tourism, which along with guide advertising, helped pay for the project. “It’s another tool that helps the visitor come to Kent County,” she said. The guide can be ordered free online and also is available at the visitor centers. Robinette also said they are targeting mid-Atlantic regions by distributing the guide in hopes of bringing in more visitors. The visitors guide has a shelf life of two years and Robinette said they eventually hope to produce a guide on a yearly basis and have it available on their website for continual updates.
