Memorial services for retired U.S. Army Col. Robin T. Thurlow, 81, of Camden, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Wyoming United Methodist Church, 216 Wyoming Mill Road, Wyoming.
Mr. Thurlow died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.
He was born Sept. 13, 1928, in Michigan.
Mr. Thurlow served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and retired as a full colonel in 1988, having served for 40 years in combined active and reserve roles that included a long assignment as a senior instructor for the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and Adjutant for the Delaware National Guard.
He graduated from the University of Bridgeport, Conn., in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. After his military career, he had a second career as an accounting executive at several local and national companies. Before his retirement in 1990 from Artesian Water Company of Newark, he was corporate vice president, secretary, treasurer and chief financial officer. After his civilian career, he retired to Florida in 1990, returning to Delaware in 2000 to be close to his children and grandchildren.
Two sisters, Beatrice Ross and Jenny Dionise, preceded Mr. Thurlow in death.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Marion “Birdie” Thurlow, whom he married Aug. 12, 1950; a daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Greg Myers of Wilmington; and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary A. Thurlow of Camden-Wyoming, and Christopher R. and Adrienne Thurlow of Townsend.
Mr. Thurlow also is survived by his grandchildren, Brian P. Osburn and his wife Jamie, Scott Osburn, Dawn Osburn, Robert A. Thurlow, Deborah L. Thurlow and Samantha Jo Thurlow, all living nearby in Delaware. He also doted on his several cats, Mitzie, Major and Muffin.
His other surviving family includes a brother, James Oswald; a sister, Janet Hornacek of Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends.
