OBITUARY: Ronald W. Hartnett

Friends of the late Ronald W. Hartnett, 65, of Magnolia, may call on the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Mr. Harnett died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at the Arbors at New Castle Subacute and Rehabilitation Center, New Castle.

Born Sept. 18, 1944, in Dover, he was the son of the late Robert L. Sr. and Daisey Hartnett.

Mr. Harnett was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.

He worked for the state of Delaware in the Division of Child and Family Services for 19 years, retiring in December 2007.

Mr. Harnett enjoyed going to the University of Maryland college football games.

He was an umpire for the Camden-Wyoming Little League for nine years and was a member of the Magnolia Fire Company, where he also would call bingo.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert L. Hartnett, William V. Hartnett and Richard L. Hartnett; and by a sister, Betty J. Arment.

Mr. Harnett is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anna Hartnett; a son, Ronald W. Hartnett Jr. and his fiancée, Tina Smith of Middletown; three sisters, Beulah Bell of Dover, Beverly Mildice of Gulfport, Miss., and Patricia Benjamin of Canterbury; and an extended family of nieces, nephews and friends.

Interment will be in the Sharon Hills Memorial Park, west of Dover.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Hartnett’s name maybe made to the Magnolia Fire Company, P.O. Box 55 Magnolia, DE 19962; or Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of Delaware, 220 Continental Drive, Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713.
