OBITUARY: Florence Margaret Ann Meyer Roock

Friends of the late Florence Margaret Ann Meyer Roock, 92, of Dover, may call on the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 8, at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Roock will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus St., Dover.

Mrs. Roock died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, following a brief illness.

Born March 14, 1917, in Concordia, Mo., she was the daughter of the late William Meyer and Charlotte Emilie Kirchoff Meyer.

Mrs. Roock attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and graduated from Concordia High School. She excelled in academics and would have loved to attend college.

She married a Nebraskan, the Rev. John C. Roock of Borger, Texas, in December 1940, in Concordia. Her husband’s career as Lutheran pastor took them from Borger in 1947 to Brownwood, Texas; in 1952 to Houston, Texas; in 1954 to Conover, N.C.; and in 1962 to Dover.

Mrs. Roock was blessed with an inquisitive mind and a great memory. She enjoyed handwork and quilting, crossword puzzles, the study of history and the Bible, among numerous interests. She treasured each gift she received during life and enjoyed creating a special gift for each grandchild.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dover, where her husband served as pastor from 1962 to 1980.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, to whom she had been married 50 years; a daughter, Ann Roock Wrenn; and a son, Carl Roock.

Mrs. Roock is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Marjorie Meyer of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Meyer of Kansas City and Louise Roock of Anaheim, Calif.; two sons and their wives, John and Barbara Roock of Bluffton, S.C., and Mark and Janet Roock of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jan Melhunek of Easton, Md.; a son-in-law, Tommy Wrenn of Fredericksburg, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Josie Roock of Dover; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are by the Trader Funeral Home, Dover.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Roock’s name may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus St., Dover, DE 19901, for the Rev. John Roock Endowment.
