Friends of the late Doris Truitt Torbert, 76, of Dover and Marco Island, Fla., may call on the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11.
Mrs. Torbert died Friday, March 5, 2010.
Born Feb. 23, 1934, in Seaford, she was the daughter of the late Claude W. and Mary Truitt.
Mrs. Torbert attended Seaford schools through her sophomore year, and then moved to Salisbury, Md., where she graduated from Wicomico High School in 1952.
She worked for the Caesar Rodney School District until she married her husband, William Torbert, and then worked for his family business, Torbert Funeral Chapels, for 36 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Torbert was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Dover where she served on several committees; she also was a member of the Ladies Elks of Dover and an associate member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Marco Island, Fla.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alan and Bill Truitt.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Torbert is survived by a brother, John Truitt; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Frank “Randy” and Rose Wallick, Gary Wallick and Bill and Lisa Torbert; and three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patti and Dan Olenik, Sharon and Yvan Belleville and Lisa Torbert.
She also is survived by 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private interment will be held at the Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
Funeral arrangements are by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover.
