    Friends of the late Robert H. Waltz, 97, of Dover, may call on the family at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where services will be held at noon.

    Mr. Waltz died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at home.

    Born Jan. 1, 1912, in Altoona, Pa., he was the son of the late Fred W. Waltz and Verna Hoy Waltz.

    Mr. Waltz grew up and attended public school in State College, Pa., and at the age of 29 attended the Pennsylvania State School of Aeronautics in Harrisburg, Pa. After graduation he worked at Olmstead Army Air Depot in Middletown, Pa., and transferred in 1944 to what is now Ramey Air Force Base in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, where he spent 12 years.

    In 1956 he transferred to Dover Air Force Base from which he retired after 36 years in 1978. He then worked for Delaware Printing Company and the Dover Post for 13 years.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mendoza Waltz; a son, Robert Waltz; four brothers, Carl, Fred, Charles and Don Waltz; and three sisters, Louise Yearick, Helen Auman and Betty Hendrickson.

    Mr. Waltz is survived by a son, Richard Waltz of Dover; a daughter, Dixie Moore of Dover, Pa.; a brother, Harold Waltz of State College; a sister, Lois Stoner of Weatherford, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great grandchildren.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Waltz’s name may be sent to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or the Kent County SPCA, 34 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
