OBITUARY: William P. Maag

William P. Maag, 97, of Dover, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Born Oct. 31, 1912, in Dover, he was the son of the late William and Mattie Maag.

Mr. Maag performed his machinist apprenticeship during the Great Depression, and attained his journeyman papers in 1933.

He worked for the DuPont Company during World War II, supporting the war effort. He later worked in and around Dover, specializing in canning and compression machinery at Richardson and Robbins, Underwood, San Del and Green Giant.

Mr. Maag was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, who shared the bounty of his efforts with his friends and family.

He truly lived a full life and will be missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elaise H. Maag, who died Dec. 30, 2006; his sister, Maggie; and his daughter, Margaret “Peg” Stallings in 1995.

Mr. Maag is survived by his grandsons, Mark Stallings and Sean Stallings; and his great-grandchildren, Aaliyah and William.
