Officers participating in the statewide effort to “Stop Speeding Before it Stops You” issued 469 citations for speeding violations between Oct. 19 and 25. This is the second highest number of speed citation written since the campaign launched on July 6. Currently speed is listed as a contributing factor in 18% of the state’s 84 fatal crashes this year.

In addition to the speed citations officers also issued three citations for violating Delaware’s aggressive driving law, 10 citations for seat belt violations, two citations for child restraint violations and 137 for other traffic violations.

Delaware State Police, New Castle County Police and Dover Police are continuing to conduct either single or two-officer team patrols looking for speeders and other dangerous drivers such as those who run red lights or are impaired by drugs and or alcohol. The public is encouraged to take an active role in this effort by calling 911 to report aggressive drivers.
