Mr. Johnson died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, a very beautiful place full of solace and serenity for him as well as his family.
Born Nov. 3, 1957, in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Va., he was the son of the late William Henry Johnson and Jeanette E. Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was educated in his hometown of Norfolk, Va., at the Lake Taylor Senior High School, then at college at Virginia Wesleyan College, Norfolk, where he studied and mastered commercial art.
He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1981 to 1994, where his work in the communications field was rewarded with many plaques and certificates.
After a brief break from military service, he re-enlisted into the education and military lifestyle he loved. He had 30 years of service when he retired in early 2009. During this time he continued work to become a mathematics educator.
Mr. Johnson lived to draw, paint and make things with his hands.
He was a member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post No. 2, Dover. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and father who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George Arrington and Rod Arrington; and a sister, Denise P. Johnson.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his only son, Jared Alexander Johnson of Camden; Jared’s mother, Delia Johnson of Hawaii; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Yvonne Backus, Theresa and Ronnie Gill and Jeanette Johnson, all of Norfolk, and Audra and Eric Thompson of Mississippi; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Russell Arrington, Tony and Vanisha Johnson, and Grandison Johnson, all of Norfolk.
He also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other family members; and many friends that include his military family who at his time of need stood steadfast with their brother when his health began to fail.
The family is especially appreciative of special friends Garrett Brown, Linda Lynn, Marcus Giles, James Jackson and Rashida Wilson for all their works, love and expressions of kindness during this time of sadness.
In addition, the family thanks the staff of the Delaware Veterans Home for the care they gave and concerns shown for them.
