A memorial service for the late Smith Ronald Carson, 77, of Dover, will be held from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, trackside at the Harrington raceway.
Mr. Carson died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at home.
Born Sept. 15, 1932, in Harrington, he was the son of the late Major Smith Carson and Catherine Derrickson Carson.
Mr. Carson was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and had worked as a groom for Olin Davis until joining the Air Force in 1953.
He had worked as a bartender for 30 years. He also had a lifelong love of harness racing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Doreen Scarbrough.
Mr. Carson is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Catherine and Jeffrey Grzeszczak and Teresa Carson, all of Dover; their mother, Ruthellen Carson, of Dover; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Kathleen Carson of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Shawn Trader, Brandi, Victoria and James Grzeszczak, and Amanda and Samantha Scarbrough; a nephew, David Carson; a niece, LeeAnne Davis; a special friend, Elizabeth Carson;, and his little buddy, Chris.
