OBITUARY: Robert Kidwell

A visitation for the late Robert Kidwell, 79, of Felton, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the Capitol City Church of Christ, 86 Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends also may call at noon Saturday, Oct. 24. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m.

Mr. Kidwell died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Christiana Hospital, with his family at his side.

Born May 12, 1930, he was the son of the late Irvin and Ethel Kidwell.

Mr. Kidwell grew up in Middletown, Ohio. He entered Bible college during the first year of his marriage of the former Carol Ann Blackmore, and was a minister of the gospel for the next 59 years. During that time, he served at churches in Texas, Indiana, Ohio and Delaware. At the time of his death, he was evangelist of Dover’s Capitol City Church of Christ.

He was founder of Delmarva Christian Service Camp, and enjoyed woodworking, hunting and golf. His love for his family was surpassed only by his love for the Lord.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kidwell was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Raymond Kidwell; and a granddaughter, Beth McClain.

Mr. Kidwell is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Kidwell, who he married Oct. 1, 1949; three sons and their wives, Robert and Wilda Kidwell of West Elkton, Ohio, William and Mary Kidwell of Smyrna and Daniel and Deborah Kidwell of Seaford; two daughters and their husbands, Kimberly and James Dewar of Frederick, Md., and Elizabeth and Stephen McClain of Dover; a brother, Gerald Kidwell of Middletown, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover.

Flowers are accepted, or memorial donations in Mr. Kidwell’s name may be made to the Delmarva Christian Service Camp, 143 Turner Drive, Dover, DE 19904.
