OBITUARY: Senior Master Sgt. Robert Charles Arthur Sr., USAF (Ret.)

Friends of the late Robert Charles Arthur Sr., 80, of Dover, may call on the family at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where memorial services will be held at 2 p.m.

Mr. Arthur died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford.

Born April 25, 1929, in Maple Shade, N.J., he was the son of the late John F. Arthur and Helen M. O’Halloran Arthur.

Mr. Arthur was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1947 to 1974, and retiring at Dover Air Force Base with the rank of senior master sergeant. He later worked for the city of Dover Senior Surrey, the state of Delaware’s Delaware Authority of Specialized Transportation (DAST), the DelTech Terry Campus and the state of Delaware’s Office of Information Services, where he served as a computer engineer, retiring in 2001 after 15 years of service.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and photography.

Mr. Arthur was a lifetime member of National Rifle Association and the Disabled American Veterans, the Retired Enlisted Association, the Air Force Sergeants Association, the American Association of Retired Persons and the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post No. 2, Dover.

Mr. Arthur is survived by his wife of 30 years, Shirley Culver Arthur of Dover; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Roberta Arthur and Steve Coleman of Defuniak Springs, Fla., Helen and Horace Harper of Roanoke, Ala., Donna M. Arthur of Lafayette, Tenn., and Kim and James Minger of Clayton; a son, Robert C. Arthur Jr. of Ohio; a stepson, David S. Walls of Smyrna; 13 grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Arthur’s name may be made to the Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veterans Blvd., Milford, DE 19963.
