OBITUARY: Verna M. Price

Friends of the late Verna M. Price, 83, of Dover, may call on the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Torbert Funeral Chapel Downtown, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26.

Mrs. Price died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, in Christiana Care, Newark.

Born Nov. 15, 1926, in Princeton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Marvin G. Miller and Betty Weikle Miller.

Mrs. Price was a science teacher in West Virginia and Virginia before moving to Dover with her husband in 1965. She taught science at Central Middle School in the Capital School District until her retirement in 1991.

She received her Master’s Degree in Education and Instruction from the University of Delaware and the Presidential Science Teacher of the Year award from President Ronald Reagan in 1983.

Mrs. Price was a volunteer at Bombay Hook Wildlife area for many years and loved nature. She never stopped teaching.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh “Woody” Price Jr. on Jan. 30, 2008.

Mrs. Price is survived by three sons and their wives, Steve and Diana Price of Dover, Mark and Cathy Price of Smyrna and Kurt and Lynn Price of Smyrna; five grandchildren, Megan, Melody, Ashley, Jim and Katie; and five great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in the Sharon Hills Memorial Park, west of Dover.

Arrangements are by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to The Friends of Bombay Hook, 2591 White Hall Road, Smyrna, DE 19977.
