The Food Bank of Delaware and United Way of Delaware will kick off its second annual winter-long giving campaign on Friday, Nov. 20 at Kingswood Community Center.
The Delaware Does More campaign is in response to the increasing number of Delawareans in need of basic necessities – food, shelter and utilities. Since its inception, more than 1.8 million pounds of food and $377,000 have been collected for Delawareans affected by the economic downturn.
In addition to announcing the goals of this year’s campaign, Delaware Does More volunteers will host a free mobile food pantry for struggling families and individuals and provide information about available utility and shelter assistance programs from Delmarva Power and Horizon Services.
Through the mobile pantry program, a food bank truck travels to an underserved area during hours when clients find it easier to receive assistance. Thirty-pound meal boxes filled with enough nutritious food to feed four people for up to five meals are distributed.
