The Delaware Community Reinvestment Action Council Inc. is hosting Mortgage Matters!, an event that aims to help consumers avoid foreclosures on their homes, later this month.
In September. 2009 there were 609 foreclosure filings in Delaware compared with 354 foreclosures filed in September, 2008.
The council (DCRAC ) has scheduled "Mortgage Matters!" for Nov. 18 and Nov. 19 with representatives from GMAC, HSBC, Chase, Wells, and American Home Mortgage Servicing Inc.
DCRAC is a tax exempt, charitable nonprofit dedicated to ensuring equitable treatment and equal access to credit and capital for the underserved populations and communities throughout Delaware through advocacy, education, legislation and outreach.
"DCRAC invites homeowners who need help with their mortgages to register with us so we may coordinate their time with DCRAC's team of volunteer attorneys, counselors, financial planners, and others," Executive Director Rashmi Rangan said.
DCRAC's team of volunteers meet with homeowners one-on-one so they are better prepared to meet with their lender by understanding their own financial reality and filling out relevant forms. Volunteers do not provide any financial advice to the homeowner.
The council anticipates that the lender will work with the homeowner in good faith. It has held similar events in the past where some lenders modified the loan on the spot.
| If You Go Homeowners are encouraged to register, get more information, or request accommodation by calling 1-877-825-0750 x 300 (English) or x301 (Spanish). |
"For homeowners who were not as lucky, they walked away with helpful information or a helpful contact," DCRAC Chairman Domenic Pedante said.
DCRAC strongly encourages homeowners to contact the Attorney General's foreclosure hotline 1-800-220-5424 or go to www.deforeclosurehelp.org for information available to Delaware homeowners.
