Individuals who are interested in knowing more about basic gardening skills will have the opportunity to learn about home gardening with hands on experiences. A course is being presented, based on 4H lesson plans, and taught by Kent County Master Gardeners at The Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Ave., Dover. This is their ninth year of teaching low impact gardening classes at the center.
The course will be held every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. beginning Feb. 10.
The following is a list of class dates and topics:
- Feb.10: Introduction to gardening, stressing the locations of gardens
- Feb. 17: Parts of a flower and plant propagation
- Feb. 24: Soil management
- March 3: Plants for Delaware and native plants
- March 10: Seeding tomatoes and seed germination
- March 17: Seeding flowers and herbs
- March 24: Workshop in the green house
- March 31: Transplanting
There will be seven additional sessions and four will be held in the fall.
There is no fee for this course. Registration is requested, but walk-ins are welcome. For registration call 743-1200, and ask for the Membership Desk. Membership in the Modern Maturity Center is not required to attend classes, and all ages are welcome.
