Officers with the Delaware Capitol Police arrested a Bridgeville man after he allegedly threw a knife, injuring a nearby child.

The incident took place June 25, at the Kent County Courthouse, said department spokesman Det. Britt L. Davis. A man, identified as 70-year-old Wayne Dickerson, was turned back at a security checkpoint because he was carrying a knife with a 2 1/2-inch blade. The man threw the knife as he left the building, hitting a 5-year-old and causing two cuts to the child’s hand. Two other children were present, but were not hurt, Davis said.

Dickerson was charged with second-degree assault and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

He later was released on an $800 secured bond.
