All Dover City Council and City Council committee meetings scheduled for Monday, Feb. 8, have been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 22, said city of Dover spokeswoman Kay Deitz-Sass.

Deitz-Sass provided no information as to whether city employees should report for work Feb. 8.

City of Dover crews and contractors have been working 12 hour rotating shifts trying to clear city roads and streets.

“We are encouraging citizens to continue to stay off the roads so our crews can continue to plow,” Deitz-Sass said.

An Emergency Operations Center has opened at City Hall where more than 50 essential personnel are monitoring the situation in the city.

“We have been working on clearing main arteries within the city,” said Deitz-Sass, “and will progress onto other high traffic  roads next, finishing with side streets inside developments. Wind conditions are making it a little more difficult to get and keep the roadways cleared.”

City residents are reminded to ensure exhaust vents from furnaces and clothes dryers are kept clear.

In case of power outages Dover’s citizens should be conscientious of portable devices used to heat their homes, Deitz-Sass said. Do not used outdoor grills or a kitchen stove to heat homes.
City residents also should keep their automobiles off the streets to make it easier for city crews to clear the snow. All abandoned vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense, she said.
