Study shows DAFB to gain jobs in 2010
The fiscal year 2010 Force Structure Study, released last week by the Department of Defense, shows the 436th Airlift Wing at Dover Air Force Base will gain 72 active duty military and 11 civilian positions, primarily due to the need for more aircraft maintenance personnel.
The U.S. Air Force Reserve’s 512th Airlift Wing will gain 67 drill positions and one air reserve technician, also because of changing manning for aircraft maintenance personnel, but will lose 21 drill positions because of C-17 aircraft crew reductions. In all, the wing will gain 46 drill positions.
In addition, the base will gain a C-5M aircraft once that airframe is upgraded from its C-5B configuration. A C-5M has improved avionics and new engines, which is expected to extend the life of the aircraft by at least two decades.
The Force Structure Study also notes the base will temporarily gain a C-17 Globemaster III, pending assignment of that airplane to a permanent base.
