Two Kent Acres residents walked away unharmed from their Wayne Drive home Tuesday morning after their neighbor’s recreational vehicle crashed into it.
The accident occurred at 9:19 a.m. after the operator of the RV, Jane B. Dodd, 58, of Dover, attempted to move it and make way for electrical work being done to the house, said Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Joshua Busheweller.
The RV was in Dodd’s driveway, across the street from the house it hit, and when she began moving the vehicle, she was unable to take her foot off the accelerator because of a medical condition, Bushweller said.
The vehicle then went straight across the street into the neighbor’s house.
Dodd was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital where she was treated for minor knee and back injuries and released.
Nearby neighbor William Burdeaux, who also lives in the Kent Acres development, said he arrived home about 15 minutes before the accident. While he didn’t see it happen, he was there shortly after, taking photos for the homeowners for insurance purposes.
He was amazed that no one was seriously injured in the accident.
“I was thinking that’s where I would sit to have coffee,” said Burdeaux of the crash site. “It looks like [the RV] was parked in the living room.”
Bushweller said Kent County code enforcement officers deemed the home uninhabitable because of the substantial damage and condemned it.
Dodd was charged with malicious mischief by a motor vehicle, which Bushweller said is a traffic offense.
