Officers with the Harrington Police Department have charged two local men in connection with a robbery police later determined was staged.

Harrington officers, as well as Delaware State Police troopers and Dover Police arrived at the Wilmington Trust bank June 28 to investigate the robbery report, said department spokesman Cpl. Keith B. Shyers. According to the supposed victim, later identified as Bryan Murphy, 24, he was depositing money for his employer and he was attacked and robbed. Shyers said police later determined this was not the case, adding Murphy had instructed a second man, identified as Adam Kossman, 22, to act as if he had hit Murphy on the head and then took the deposit.

Both men were taken into custody June 29, and charged with theft and conspiracy, Shyers said. Murphy also was charged with filing a false police report.

Both men later were released on unsecured bonds.
