The state Department of Transportation will close the Sandy Bend Road bridge over the Tappahanna Ditch near Marydel, beginning March 8. The work is expected to last approximately 61 days.

Riprap will be placed in the stream for scour protection, the existing guardrails will be removed and replaced and the approaches will be reconstructed.

During construction, Sandy Bend Road will be closed between Halltown Road and Parkers Chapel Road. The posted detour will take traffic to Route 8/Halltown Road to Tappahanna Bridge Road and back to Sandy Bend Road.

Mumford and Miller Concrete Inc., a Delaware based contractor was the lowest of eight bids, submitting a bid of $352,377.20.
