Car crashes into trash track

    A traffic accident the morning of Nov. 13 sent a Dover man to the hospital after his car ran into the back of a trash truck stopped at a light.

    The truck was stopped on Willow Grove Road, waiting for a school bus, when the 63-year-old driver allegedly failed to stop and ran into the back of the truck, said Cpl. Bruce Harris, spokesman for the Delaware State Police.

    The man was trapped in his car and had to be extricated by the Felton Fire Department.

    Charles O. Bounds was taken to Kent General Hospital and then transported to Christiana Hospital where he was treated for head trauma.

    At last report, Bounds was listed in critical condition.

One arrested, one sought in four area burglaries

    A series of burglaries along North DuPont Highway in Dover have been solved with the arrest of a Dover man, police believe, and they are searching for a second.

    The burglaries include the Dover Liquor Warehouse on Aug. 1, RE/MAX on Oct. 21, and Classic Cakes and Cold Stone Creamery both on Nov. 4.

    Police arrested Eric M. Dickerson, 18, of Edgewood Road and charged him with four counts of third-degree burglary, four counts of theft, four counts of second-degree conspiracy and four counts of criminal mischief. He was committed to Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $14,000 secured bond.

    Police continue to search for Norman “Lee” Young and are asking for public assistance in the matter.

Dover man wanted in rape investigation

    Delaware State Police detectives are looking for a 41-year-old Dover man in connection with an August rape.

    Keith W. Stevens Sr., whose last known address was in the 400 block of Dogwood Drive, Dover, allegedly picked up two females walking along the road near Smyrna, said police spokesman Cpl. Gary Fournier. Stevens knew both the women, Fournier said.

    Stevens allegedly dropped one of the women off at her home, but took the victim, 16, to an area east of Smyrna, where he forced her to have sex with him.

    The victim later told friends and school counselors, who alerted authorities, Fournier said.

    Stevens is described as a black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. He is thought to be driving a white passenger vehicle and may be in the Dover or Wilmington area.

Tobacco Hot Spot again burglarized

    Dover Police are investigating a burglary at the Tobacco Hot Spot on Walker Road — the second such crime in a month at the location.

    Someone smashed the front door, entered and stole three water pipes valued at approximately $150, said Lt. James Hosfelt, spokesman for the Dover Police Department. There were at least two suspects involved, Hosfelt said.

    The store was robbed Oct. 20; the burglars took 22 glass smoking pipes.

Woman robbed while walking home

    Dover police are searching for two men who robbed a woman walking to her Woodcrest home Nov. 13.

    The woman had just parked her car when two masked men approached her and demanded her purse. The men took the purse and drove off, said Lt. James Hosfelt, spokesman for the Dover Police Department. No description of the men or of the vehicle was provided.

Claymont man faces rape charges

    A 32-year-old Claymont man is facing second-degree rape charges after forcing a 19-year-old Dover woman to perform sexual acts.

    The woman was walking with him voluntarily in the area of the Persimmon Park Place playground, said Lt. Benson Counselman, spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    Once at the playground, Counselman said the man physically forced the victim into the sexual acts. The woman’s roommate found her at the park after she failed to return home.

    Police arrested Ervin W. Whitby, 32, of Claymont and charged him with two counts of second-degree rape and offensive touching. He was committed to Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $20,000 secured bond.

Men arrested for hunting violations

    Agents with the state Fish and Wildlife Division arrested three persons, including a Hartly man, on numerous hunting-related violations.

    The arrests were made Nov. 8, near Fords Corner Road, Hartly, said Sgt. Gregory Rhodes of the Fish and Wildlife enforcement division.

    The Hartly man was identified as Oliver W. Hackendorn, 21, of the 2000 block of Everetts Corner Road. A Clayton man, identified as Aaron Hayes, 18, and a juvenile also were arrested, Rhodes said.

    Hackendorn faces numerous charges including conspiracy, hunting from a motor vehicle, hunting during a closed season, carrying an unlawfully loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and others.

    A single shot 20-guage shotgun, a 1996 Ford pickup and a spotlight were seized for evidence, Rhodes said.

    Hackendorn was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court No. 7 pending a future appearance in Kent County Superior Court, and then released.

    Hayes also faces charges of conspiracy, hunting from a motor vehicle, hunting during a closed season, possessing unlawfully taken game, and others.

    He also was arraigned at JP Court No. 7, and released; he is awaiting an appearance in Kent County Superior Court. The juvenile also was released and is facing trial in Kent County Family Court.
