Rape charges dropped

    A Dover man accused in January of first-degree rape, second-degree burglary and unlawful impersonation has been cleared and charges against him dropped, according to court documents available at Superior Court.

    The case against Jay L. Degood, 40, was dropped June 6, and the case closed because of lack of probable cause.

Police search for Country Cupboard robber

    Delaware State Police are searching for a young man who committed a Sept. 28 robbery at the Country Cupboard near Sandtown.

    The man walked into the store on Willow Grove Road and went behind the counter where he held a handgun on two clerks and demanded money, said Sgt. Joshua Bushweller, spokesman for the Delaware State Police.

    One of the clerks heard another man outside urging the robber hurry up and the man left with an undisclosed amount of cash, Bushweller said.

    The man ran toward the nearby S & D Mobile Home Park on Sandalwood Drive. Police later found a roll of quarters there near Skyler Lane.

    The robber was described as in his 20s or late teens, 5-foot-5-inches tall, 150 pounds, with brown eyes and wearing camouflage clothing including a hood and gloves.

Police investigate Generals Green robbery

    Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion at Generals Green that occurred at 8 p.m. Sept. 27 when two men knocked on the door and robbed the occupants.

    Police said a woman inside didn’t answer immediately but when she did open the door to inquire who it was, the men pulled out handguns and barged in, said Sgt. Joshua Bushweller, spokesman for the Delaware State Police.

    The men searched the first floor and basement for money and when they came up empty-handed, took cell phones valued at $100. The men fled on foot, he said.

    One suspect is described as a light-complexioned unshaven black man in his 20s with cropped hair, 6 feet tall with a thin build, wearing a white T-shirt and baggy jeans, and carrying a black handgun.

    The other is described as a clean-shaven black man in his 20s with a dark complexion, approximately 6 feet tall with a chunky build, wearing a white T-shirt, baggy jeans and red ball cap. He carried a silver handgun.

Woman arrested for allegedly luring victims

    Dover Police arrested a Wilmington woman Sept. 25 in connection with a series of robberies in which victims were called to meet her and then robbed.

    Dover officers obtained a warrant for the arrest of 22-year-old Lindsey Embry after Delaware State Police contacted them about a similar robbery in their jurisdiction, said Lt. James Hosfelt, spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    Police charged Embry with two counts of first-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She was committed to the Delores Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in default of $31,000 cash bond.

    Police continue to search for her alleged accomplice, who is believed to have actually committed the robberies. He is described as a heavyset black man, approximately 6 feet tall and last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark jeans.

Passenger dies in collision near Harrington

    The driver of a Honda that spun out of control along a bend near Whitleysburg Road has been charged in the accident that killed his passenger and closed the road for three hours the evening of Sept. 27.

    Jose Manzanares, 26, of Annapolis, Md., was charged with death by motor vehicle, careless driving and driving left of the centerline. He was released on $550 unsecured bond.

    His passenger, Rosa Guitierrez, 26, also of Annapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Cyril O. Agbe-Davies, 37, of Silver Spring, Md., was treated and released for injuries sustained when the Honda hit his car.

Dover Police investigate four burglaries

    Dover Police are investigating several burglaries that occurred in the area over the past week.

    The first occurred Sept. 24 when someone forced open the front door of a home on Stonebrook Place and took a camera and firearm, said Lt. James Hosfelt, spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    In the second, Lt. Paul Bernat said someone entered a home on Greenblade Drive through an unlocked rear door between 6:30 and 11:45 p.m.  Sept. 25, and took a Dell laptop computer and jewelry valued at $3,200.

    Sometime between 9 p.m. Sept. 26 and 2 a.m. Sept. 27, Bernat said someone smashed the second story sliding glass door of an apartment on Willis Road. Once inside, the burglar broke into a lock box and removed keys and paperwork.

    Lastly, Hosfelt said someone entered a home Sept. 26 on Lamplighter Lane and took money and electronic equipment.

Officer foils robbery in progress

    A Dover Police officer who thought he was breaking up a fight found out it was a robbery attempt during his night patrol Sept. 26.

    Police chased down one man and then arrested a second in connection with the incident, in which the victim’s gold chain was taken and his cell phone damaged, said Lt. Paul Bernat, spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    Police charged William Moore, 36, of Harrington, with first-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Additionally, he was facing charges for a previous shoplifting charge and wanted for a burglary warrant. He was committed to Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $16,750 bond.

    Also arrested was David Paitsel, 27, of Magnolia, who was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was committed to VCC in default of $12,500 bond.

Dover man faces marijuana charges

    Dover Police arrested a 23-year-old man Sept. 26 on drug charges after searching him and finding 21.5 grams of marijuana on him.

    The man, identified as Mark Mills of Dover, also was wanted on a capias, said Lt. Paul Bernat, spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    Mills was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and other drug charges.

    He was committed to Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $1,500 secured bond and $360 cash only bond.

Wilmington man faces drug charges

    A man caught allegedly trying to urinate in public Sept. 23 was arrested for drug possession.

    Police found 19 oxycodone pills in a plastic baggie, said Lt. Steve Getek, spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    Police arrested Kenneth Carson, 38, of Wilmington, and charged him with possession of a narcotic and drug paraphernalia.

    He was released on unspecified bond.
