Man walks from prison

    A Magnolia man has been reported missing after failing to return from a pass issued by the Sussex Community Corrections Center in Georgetown.

    The man, identified as Michael Flickinger, 20, failed to return Oct. 26.

    He is described as a white man, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes and wearing a goatee. He has a discoloration on his back.

    Flickinger had been jailed on a probation violation following conviction for second-degree assault.

    Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 800-542-9524 or their local police department.

Former Marine charged in alleged raffle scam

    Dover Police arrested a former Marine Oct. 26 in connection with an alleged raffle scam.

    The man, identified as Marcus K. Jackson Jr., 26, of Dover, was allegedly going door-to-door soliciting money while dressed in his Marine Corp uniform, said Lt. Paul Bernat, a spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    Jackson, who had been discharged in April, was allegedly offering a chance to win a 42-inch plasma television, Bernat said.

    Jackson was charged with 18 counts of criminal impersonation and 17 counts of theft by false pretense. He was released on $3,500 unsecured bond.

State Police nab 18 local fugitives

    Delaware State Police Sex Offender Apprehension and Registration Unit, with the assistance of other agencies across the state, conducted a two-day operation Oct. 21 and 22 rounding up 18 fugitives. Arrests in Kent County included four wanted sex offenders and two persons charged with unrelated crimes:

    • Sammy L. Barrineau, 40, of Dover, for failure to re-register as a sex offender and four court capiases. He was committed to Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $2,500 secured bond.

    • Deshaun E. Harris, 23, of Dover, for failing to re-register as a sex offender, violation of parole and three capiases. He was committed to VCC in default of $3,500 cash bond.

    • Lamarr Trower, 24, of Dover, for failure to re-register as a sex offender. He was committed to VCC in default of $11,000 cash bail.

    • Michael G. Smith, 50, of Harrington, for failure to re-register as a sex offender. Bail was unknown.

    • Leroy D. Clark, 27, of Hartly, for drug charges and several court capiases. He was committed to VCC in default of $6,500 secured bail.

    • David D. Tolson, 28, of Dover for violation of probation and Family Court capias. He was committed to VCC in default of $500 secured bail.

Police seek Park Drive home intruder

    Dover Police are searching for a man found inside a local home in the early morning of Oct. 24.

    The homeowner was awakened by his dog barking at 3:07 a.m. to find the man standing in his sun room, said Lt. Paul Bernat, spokesman for the Dover Police Department. The man fled after being discovered.

    The intruder was described as a black man, wearing a red shirt and black pants, Bernat said.

    Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Dover Police at 736-7111.

Four charged in Oct. 10 armed robbery

    Two men and two women face charges in connection with the armed robbery of the Delaware Title and Loan on Route 13, Dover.

    Two people entered the business Oct. 10 and demanded money from two employees and two customers, said Lt. James Hosfelt, spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    Police arrested Chad Everett, 28, of Dover, Lee Vinson, 23,  of Camden, and Kayla Mullins, 20,  and Leanne Honey, 22, both of Harrington. They were charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy, wearing a disguise and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

    All were jailed in default of $104,000 secured bond each.

Man arrested for allegedly making false 911 calls

    A 37-year-old Smyrna man was arrested Oct. 24 in connection with seven false 911 calls made between August 2006 and October 2008.

    The most recent incident occurred Oct. 14, when Delaware State Police received a 911 call alleging there was an armed, suicidal subject inside a home, said Sgt. Joshua Bushweller, spokesman for the Delaware State Police.

    When police went to the vacant house, he said they found empty beers cans and a backpack that contained a wallet with identification information. The officer noticed someone watching him from a home across the street and when he shined the flashlight at the person, the man ducked, Bushweller said.

    Police went to the home and the man who answered appeared intoxicated, Bushweller said. Police spoke to his parents about the calls and had them listen to the 911 recordings. The parents subsequently identified their son on the 911 recordings, Bushweller said.         The alleged false 911 calls included:

    • An August 2006 call saying he had killed his wife and daughter.

    • A January 2007 call claiming he had been stabbed and another the following day reporting a domestic incident.

    • A February 2007 call stating he had ingested pills in order to commit suicide.

    • A May 2007 call claiming he had been shot.

    Police arrested Damon Bethel and charged him with seven counts of falsely reporting an alleged incident to a law enforcement agency, which did not occur.

    He was released on $3,500 unsecured bond.

Man faces more than 150 child porn charges

    A 54-year-old Dover man was arrested Oct. 27 for allegedly downloading child pornography onto his computer.

    After receiving a tip through Delaware CrimeStoppers, police conducted a lengthy investigation and seized the man’s computer, said Lt. James Hosfelt, spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    Investigators discovered 150 images of child pornography on the machine, Hosfelt said.

    Wayne K. Aliff, of Woodcrest Drive, was charged with 150 counts each of possession of child pornography and unlawfully dealing in child pornography.

    He was committed to the Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $3.225 million secured bond.

Teen faces robbery charges

    A Dover teen has been charged in connection with the Oct. 23 knifepoint robbery of two younger teens.

    The boys were in the alley between North Governors Avenue and North Bradford Street when they were approached by two others, said Lt. James Hosfelt, spokesman for the Dover Police Department.

    After the robbery, Hosfelt said the boys gave police an accurate description of one of the alleged robbers and he was found at the intersection of Cecil and New streets.

    Police arrested James Bowman, 17, of North Governors Avenue, and charged him with two counts of first-degree robbery, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and second-degree conspiracy. There was no bond information available.

    Police continue to search for a second man and anyone with information on his identity is asked to call 736-7111 or 800-TIP-3333.

Dover Police investigate burglaries

    Dover Police are investigating several burglaries that occurred over the past week.

    In the first incident, which occurred Oct. 20, someone shattered the front door of the Hot Spot on Walker Road and took 22 glass smoking pipes.

    On Oct. 22, an unknown person forced his way into the RE/MAX office on North DuPont Highway. Once inside, the burglar took money and other items. Witness described the individual as a white man with dark hair, believed to be in his 20s.

    The third incident occurred between 11:45 p.m. Oct. 23 and 1:10 a.m. Oct. 14, when someone entered an apartment and removed a purse, several DVDs and other items.
