A Dover man has been taken to a Pennsylvania burn hospital following a weekend fire in the city.
The blaze took place at approximately 2:36 p.m. May 2, at a home on Nimitz Road, said city of Dover spokeswoman Kay Sass. Firefighters from the Dover Fire Department fought the blaze.
A person at the home, identified as Robert Records, 77, was first taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, then to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa., for treatment, Sass said.
Dover Police Department spokesman Lt. Tim Stump said the victim apparently had been sparking a cigarette lighter while on oxygen. The spark ignited the oxygen, which was attached directly to his nose and mouth. He suffered burn to his face and body, Stump said.
Damage to the home is estimated to be approximately $50,000.
