Four local teachers named among state's best educators

Four local teachers are among 20 of the state’s best educators, selected from each school district and several charter schools who will compete for the honor of being named Delaware’s Teacher of the Year 2010.

The 19 women and one man finalists were picked from the more than 8,800 teachers statewide.

The local teachers are:

Amy Bowen — North Dover Elementary School, Grade 1
Kathy A. DeLong — W.B. Simpson Elementary School, English/Language Arts
Brenda Porter — Polytech High Schook, Grades 10-12 Cosmetology
Karen D. Williams — Lake Forest High School, Grades 9-12 Social Studies

The selection of the Teacher of the Year will be announced Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, Dover, by Gov. Jack Markell.
