Dover High School is proud to announce that a record-breaking 49 students have been named Advanced Placement Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on college-level AP examinations. In addition, two of them have been named National AP Scholars, raising DHS’ total for 2009 to 51 AP Scholars.

Students take AP exams in May after completing challenging college-level courses at their high schools. This year, in May of 2010, Dover High is scheduled to administer 21 different AP exams to more than 500 AP candidates. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of yearlong courses and exams. Exams are graded on a scale of 1 to 5.

At Dover High, 31 students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP examinations, with grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are Cooper Asay, Aashna Bajwa, Nicholas Bolton, Ryan Caulfield, Megan Chirillo, Janet Cordero, Katie Davison, Mehir Desai, Tyler Emory, Thomas Endicott, Tierra Evans, Daniel Gatto, Allison Gerni, James Gomes, Octavia Gory, Spencer Greene, Jacob Knox, Lauren Luzier, Jasmine Meade, Kyle Niezgoda, Samuel Nixon, Elise Prisco, Michael Sanchez, Peter Schonert, Raina Sheth, Rachel Taylor, Mariah Taylor-Hodge, Allan Thomas, Erik Towne, Ian Walsh and Michael Wright.

Seven students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These students are Pujan Dave, Amy Falkenstein, Angela Hui, Kevin Keitel, Conor McGiffin, Spenser Prichard and Herbert Rapley.

Eleven students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are Dalton Berrie, David Breese, Andrew Davis, George Gallo, Chen Ling, Omar Melikechi, Hannah Ostroff, Katherine Pierce, Jennifer Rivera, Joshua Stein and Jordan Wedel.

Furthermore, two students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of at least 4.00 on all AP exams taken and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. These students are David Breese and Hannah Ostroff.

Most of the nation’s colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement or both based on successful performance on the AP exams. According to the College Board, more than 1,400 institutions award a full year’s credit (sophomore standing) to students presenting a sufficient number of qualifying grades.

Dover High School is a member of the College Board and offers a significant number of AP courses and examinations each year.
