Two local interior designers have moved their shop to 125 W. Loockerman St. with the hope of participating in more downtown events.
For the last two weeks, Partners in Design owners Lucy Findlay and Valla Rogers have been settling in to the new space and took a break from arranging merchandise and greeting customers Oct. 14 to answer a few questions about their new location.
Q: What made you decide to move from your former location on Governors Avenue?
A: We started a studio in a house on Governors Avenue nine years ago, and four years ago, we added a gift shop that started as a space that was open for a week on special occasions and then was open only one day a week.
On Loockerman Street, the store has more of a gift shop presence, and it’s open three days a week. We also wanted more foot traffic and exposure, as well as the ability to participate in downtown events like parades and First Fridays.
Q: Has your business changed or expanded because of the move?
A: The store has more space to display merchandise, and we plan on having more of a collection of furniture on display, so our customers can sit in the chairs and actually see the furniture that we carry.
The new store has also allowed us to integrate our studio and gift shop. The spaces for paint, fabric, and wallpaper samples is no longer completely separate from the gift shop, where we sell a variety of things for people’s homes, including throw pillows, candles, lamps and other decorations.
Q: What kinds of services do you offer customers?
A: Our store handles both commercial and residential designs, and we try to help people discover their own sense of style. Some people just need some help finding that style, and we try to create a space that’s meaningful to the customer.
We’ve been working together as business partners for more than 20 years and have a lot of professional experience and education. Valla also is a member of the American Society of Interior Decorators. Interior design is our first love, and we bring a high level of professionalism to helping people with space planning and choices of fabric, flooring and colors.
