Fixing up the small jobs around the house is a niche Erik Reichelt has found for himself. Opening a local branch of the national House Doctors chain in September, Reichelt and his small staff have been busy doing a lot of the odd jobs many homeowners don’t want to tackle.

“The average to-do list in homes is 22 items long,” Reichelt said.

Drywall repairs, filter replacements, caulking and appliance installation are just a few of the small jobs the handymen can take care of during a visit.

Small jobs are priced at $120 and up to the first hour and $80 thereafter, Reichelt said.

For larger jobs, such as basement or bathroom remodeling, he said they give an estimate for the work. Even in the current economy, Reichelt said work has been steady, as people seem to be choosing to fix up and improve their homes instead of moving into newer models.

Reichelt said he doesn’t want customers to have more than a two-week wait time for small jobs and he has the luxury of hiring more people if work demands it.

All work has a one-year guarantee and Reichelt said he does a thorough background check of his employees.

“The ideal goal is to be able to offer customers the service and quality that they should get,” he said.
