A new fitness facility uses personal trainers and a unique equipment to provide an affordable and interesting workout routine.
Christopher Gray, president and director of the gym, took a moment to answer a few questions Oct. 22 about why patrons were benching logs and what people should expect from their first visit to the gym in Wood Brook Professional Center.
Q: Why did you decide to open this business?
A: I owned the gym that used to be in this location, and I’ve been in the gym business for about six years. I heard about the art of strength training methods at a fitness conference and decided that I was interested in opening a franchise of Punch Gym.
Q: Can you tell me about your personal training services?
A: People can expect a different workout than they’ve ever had before. Most people quit gyms after the first month because they don’t know how to properly use the equipment and don’t see any results. Our membership includes access to a personal trainer, and we have three trainers that offer small group sessions for three to five people during different times six days a week. People still get access to a personal trainer, and they share the cost, which makes it more affordable.
Q: What other services do you offer customers?
A: Members get 24-hour access to the gym, and that’s been good for people that work late-night or early-morning shifts who still want to be able to work out.
We also use lots of unusual equipment that you wouldn’t find at many other gyms. There are rocks, ropes and even beer kegs sometimes, and customers can bench logs as part of their workout. We also have round kettle bells instead of the standard dumbbells. Everything is incorporated in the workout to provide variety and keep people from getting bored.
Punch Kettlebell Gym also has a kids program called “stop the obesity” designed for kids between the ages of 6 and 12. They use the same equipment but on a lower level.
Q: What are some other things that people should know about your business?
A: People should call ahead to make an appointment, and we offer a free orientation to all new members. People also can come for free for the first two weeks without any obligations.
