It’s only been around 10 months, but Bradley Eaby’s law practice is growing.

Established in October 2008 with just one attorney — Eaby himself — and two staff members, in 10 months The Eaby Firm has added a second attorney, a law clerk and another staffer.

The firm offers a number of legal services, focusing on Eaby’s specialties of real estate law, consumer bankruptcy, commercial leases, personal injury law and civil litigation. He is licensed both in Delaware and in Pennsylvania.

Eaby’s goal is to assist people in obtaining their just due.

“I enjoy this,” Eaby said. “It’s gratifying to be able to help people solve their financial problems and try to get them on the right path and looking to a more prosperous future.”

His associate, Gretchen C. Gilchrist, who joined the firm in May, specializes in family law, wills and estate planning and consumer bankruptcy.

Originally from Ephrata, Pa., Eaby, 47, obtained his juris doctorate from Widener University School of Law in 1989, and then joined Dover’s Barros, McNamara, Malkiewicz and Taylor.

He left that firm to open The Eaby Firm in October 2008 with an eye toward providing a full service approach to his clientele, which consists primarily of small business owners and individuals looking for legal guidance.

Gilchrist, 42, is a self-described “military brat,” who was born to a U.S. Army family stationed in Germany — the reason she and a sister have German names.

Like Eaby, she earned her law degree at Widener. She’s worked for Virginia Sen. Robert Scott, at a law firm in Philadelphia and as a legal advisor to the Wilmington City Council. In addition to Delaware, Gilchrist also is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania.

She became an attorney and joined The Eaby Firm because she likes helping people.

“I think that people sometimes become overwhelmed in the legal process,” she said. “We’re here to serve as an advocate for our clients.”

While Eaby is interested in assisting anyone with legal problems, he would decline to represent someone if that could grow into a conflict of interest with his duties on Kent County Levy Court. Eaby was elected to a four-year term representing the county’s Second District in November 2006.

He added that if Levy Court later faced an issue that involved someone who already was a client, he then would evaluate the necessity of abstaining from voting on any issue related to that individual, he said.

The Eaby Firm also prides itself on being a technologically advanced operation. It’s mostly a paperless office, where cases are stored electronically via a triple-backup, allowing the staff to find relevant documents much more quickly than having to find and then sift through paper files.

“That usually means we can respond to a client right at the time they call,” Eaby said.

The Eaby Firm is located at 99 Wolf Creek Blvd., Suite 3, Dover, and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

    The office number is 674-3299.
