One local resident started selling games at the Gateway West Shopping Center on Oct. 1 with the hope of sharing her favorite hobby with others.
Kathy Stroh, who moved to Dover from central Pennsylvania six years ago, took a few moments on Nov. 11 to tell us more about the most popular games and what people can expect during their first visit to her store, Our Game Table.
Q: What kinds of games do you sell in your store and what other services do you offer?
A: The store sells board games, card games, and role-playing games, as well as puzzles. There’s also a puzzle set up in the back that people can work on, and for $1 a day, people can come in and play a variety of games, including some classics like Life and Scrabble, on tables at the back of the store. With a monthly membership, people can get unlimited playing time in the store, discounts on merchandise and a reduced price to enter our gaming tournaments.
Every Friday night, there’s also officially sanctioned Magic: The Gathering tournaments, and each week, people can come in and play the game Carcassonne on their own time, and I add up all the scores at the end of the week to determine a winner. The winner gets a prize basket with cards, bags for holding games, posters, and dice.
Q: Why did you decide to open this business?
A: I like playing games, and this is a way to share my passion for games with others. My first choice is board games, but I play a lot of other games as well.
Q: What board games have been popular so far?
A: A lot of people have been coming in to play Magic: The Gathering and buy Magic cards. Other than that, Mouse Trap seems to be a favorite.
