A new Dover dentist’s office wants to pamper patients and their smiles, using new technology, lavender-scented towels and a relaxing ambiance.
Dover Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, which opened Aug. 26 on South State Street, is run by Venetia Dover and her husband, Dr. Junior A. Dover. She took a few minutes Sept. 18 to answer questions about the business and what people should expect on their first visit.
Why did you decide to open this business?
My husband worked as an associate in a dental office in New Castle, and he decided to open his own practice. When we looked at the community, there were a lot of dentists that were retiring in the area and a community that’s growing in population. We opened this office to try to fill that need.
What unique products and services does Dover Family and Cosmetic Dentistry offer?
We want people to feel relaxed and comfortable here. There’s a refreshments bar with coffee, tea, biscotti, bottled water and juices for people while they wait. At the end of each visit, we give patients a warm, lavender-scented towel to wipe off their hands and face.
We provide customers with a variety of restorative and cosmetic procedures, including laser whitening, fillings, crowns, root canals, bridges and veneers.
At our practice, we really invested a lot in the latest technology available. We have a panoramic X-ray machine and an intra-oral camera. The camera allows Dr. Dover to show patients pictures from inside their mouths on a screen. They can more visibly see cavities, cracked teeth and any discoloring. The screens are in front of each dentist’s chair, and we have them connected to computers, so we can also show videos to kids if they’re antsy in the dentists’ chair. We’re also very into dental education and can show videos about a procedure to patients on the screens.
We also offer nitride sedation to patients who are a little tense. It’s a colorless gas that’s a combination of nitrogen and oxygen. It’s just used to make sure patients feel more relaxed. Patients can still drive home after they’ve had the sedation, and there’s no need for someone to accompany them to drive them home.
We have day and evening appointments, as well as on Saturdays. Most dentist offices are open only during the daytime on weekdays.
