The men were identified as Tyaire Clark and Jayaire Brittingham.

An investigation into an illegal firearm has led to criminal charges against two men.

The two are identified as Tyaire Clark, 17, and Jayaire Brittingham, 18, Dover Police Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

During December and January, police learned the two were in possession of a sawed-off shotgun/rifle combination; these weapons comprise at least one rifled barrel and one smoothbore barrel and usually are used for game hunting.

Hoffman said that after gathering enough evidence for an arrest warrant, the two were arrested without incident Thursday, Jan. 10 in the Dover Public Library.

The firearm has yet to be recovered, Hoffman said.

Brittingham and Clark both are charged with a single count each of possession of a destructive weapon; they later were released on an unspecified bond.

Police are continuing their probe and search for the weapon; anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call Dover police at 736-7130. Tips may be left anonymously.
