Christian Andrade was seen carrying a handgun inside a convenience store.
Delaware State Police have arrested a 17-year-old Magnolia resident after he was seen shoplifting and carrying a handgun.
Division spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe identified the suspect as Christian Andrade.
The case started Sept. 27 at the Valero Shore Stop when the manager spotted an individual, later identified as Andrade, shoplifting a soda. The manager later told police she noticed he was carrying a firearm.
The same individual came into the store the following day; this time the manager confronted him and told him not to return. Andrade became upset, leading the manager to call troopers.
A review of the store’s video surveillance shows the individual armed with a black small handgun in his front waistband, Jaffe said. It also shows him taking a soda and leaving the store without paying for it.
After identifying Andrade as the suspect, troopers went to a home in the 1400 block of Rising Sun Road, where he was taken into custody without resistance. They also recovered a Taurus PT22 22LR semi-automatic pistol and a box of ammunition, Jaffe said.
It later was learned Andrade had stolen the weapon from his mother’s boyfriend and had altered the serial number.
Andrade is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited juvenile, possession of a weapon with a removed obliterated or altered serial number, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, theft of a firearm and shoplifting under $1,500.
Andrade was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Stevenson House on a $31,000 secured bond.
