Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, 11978 Turkle Pond Road, Milton, announced its calendar of upcoming events.

Events are held at Prime Hook NWR unless otherwise noted.

— Nature Photography Contest: September. The Friends of Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge Inc. is accepting entries for their 15th annual Nature Photography Contest. The contest is open to all photographers, including separate categories for students. Categories include beauty of Prime Hook, native flowers and plants, native birds, other native wildlife and Delmarva scenery. Photographs will be on display from Oct. 21 to Dec. 9, and the exhibition will kick off with an opening reception Oct. 21 in the auditorium of the Visitors Center at Prime Hook NWR. Viewers decide the People’s Choice Award, which will be presented at the conclusion of the exhibition. Visit friendsofprimehook.com.

— Birding field trip: 8 to 11 a.m. Sept. 24, Oct. 18, Nov. 16 and Dec. 12. Led by volunteer birding guides, beginner and experienced bird watchers will observe and learn about the bird species frequenting the refuge this time of year. Participants should come prepared for the weather and expect to walk up to a mile. Bring binoculars, a field guide and spotting scope; the leader will have spotting scopes available. Binoculars will be available to borrow. Meet at the refuge office. Trips are about three hours. To register, call 684-8419.

— An Evening at the Hook Lecture Series-Insects of Delmarva: 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 9, Milton CHEER Center, 24855 Broadkill Road. Dennis Bartow has been collecting bugs for 50 years and will tell guests about some of his favorites.
