Sen. Tom Carper released a statement June 28 after voting against the nomination of Lynn Johnson to serve as Department of Health and Human Services assistant secretary for family support.
“The response, or lack thereof, from this administration regarding the thousands of children torn from their families has been completely unacceptable. Congress is a separate but equal branch of government, and it deserves answers from Trump administration officials about how they plan to rectify this crisis they have created and reunite parents with their children. Until we are provided with these critical answers, especially from those who will be overseeing this process, I cannot vote to move nominees forward. I hope that Secretary Azar and Ms. Johnson will work with officials at HHS and DHS to get us, and the American people, the answers that we need immediately,” said Carper.
