Darrell Wilson was arrested after he was seen going into an apartment at the senior complex
Dover police have arrested a 49-year-old man after a woman was robbed in the parking lot of a local senior housing community.
Dover Police Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said Darrell Wilson was taken into custody early Tuesday morning.
The incident began at about 9 p.m. Monday, April 16 when Wilson allegedly confronted a 60-year-old woman in the Luther Towers parking lot at 430 Kings Highway. Police learned Wilson threatened the women with a knife and demanded money.
After the woman said she did not have any cash with her, Wilson allegedly got into her car and forced her to drive to a nearby ATM to withdraw an undisclosed amount of cash.
He then forced her to drive to an area downtown, where he got out of the car and left.
Officers were able to get a physical description from surveillance cameras, Hoffman said.
However, at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, the woman was outside her building smoking when she spotted Wilson in the lobby and called the police.
Additional video showed Wilson returning to Luther Towers and going into an apartment.
Officers went to the apartment and took Wilson into custody without incident. Hoffman said Wilson is not a resident of the senior complex but was thought to have been visiting an acquaintance.
Hoffman said Wilson is being charged with a single count of first-degree robbery. Bond information was not available at the time of the department’s press release.
