The Heritage Museums and Gardens of Dorchester, 1003 Greenway Drive, Cambridge, Maryland, will host a presentation on Holland Island Roots at 1 p.m. April 17.

A group of Holland Island descendants have been working with the coordination of the Dorchester County Historical Society for months. This group is interested in preserving the history of this Island, now uninhabited. In the works is programming that highlights the people that built their lives, removed from the mainland, and an exhibit that will honor the ancestors and educate the public about this place in Dorchester history.

Dorchester County native Cindy Ringgold Johnson will facilitate the meeting and share her Price and Bradshaw family histories. This workshop will be interactive, allowing those who have completed family trees to share them and those who need to fill in their trees to get information. For beginning family researchers with Holland Island roots, assistance will be given to start those trees.

The island surnames that have been identified are Bradshaw, Price, Todd, McCoy, Parks, Thomas, Duncan, Cannon, Walter, Bloodsworth, Hughes, Hooper, Mills, Griffin, Hicks, Powley, Harrison, Forrest, Bennett, Hurley, Dize , Fisher, Kelly, Wingate, Dean, Robinson, Gibson, Jenkins, Elliott, Smith, Evans, Somers and Conway. Others may surface to be investigated also.
