Joe Startt Jr., president of Kent County Chapter 850, Vietnam Veterans of America, received a Certificate of Recognition from Terry Higgins, president of the Marydel Lions Club, at a dinner meeting Feb. 13.

The certificate recognized the chapter for “outstanding, meritorious service to those who have served,” in recognition of its program of providing service dogs for Delaware veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder or other injuries.

Each dog takes about a year to train, costing about $10,000, according to Nelson Miller, owner of Riedel K-9, who addressed the meeting with CASH, an 8-month-old black Labrador retriever about half way through training.
