Other driver, from Virginia, uninjured
Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash at the intersection of Dupont Boulevard (Route 113) at Town Center Boulevard in Millsboro, the entrance/ exit to Peninsula Crossing Shopping Center.
Around noon on Monday, Feb. 12, a Volvo tractor, pulling an empty enclosed box trailer and being operated by a 63-year-old Birdsnest, Va., man, was traveling southbound on Route 113 in the right lane, just north of the entrance/exit to Peninsula Crossing, with a green light. A 2013 Nissan Altima being operated by a 26-year-old Dagsboro female was in the eastbound left turn lane, exiting the shopping center with a red light displayed. The operator of the Nissan was believed to be turning onto northbound Route 113.
For unknown reasons, the operator of the Nissan failed to stop for the red light and entered the southbound lanes in front of the Volvo, where a collision occurred.
The operator of the Volvo was properly restrained and not injured as a result of this crash.
The operator of the Nissan was transported to Beebe Healthcare, prior to being transferred to Christiana Hospital in serious condition.
Impairment does not appear to be a factor.
