Open to the public, the service in honor of the correctional officer who was killed in the line of duty will be held outside the James T. Vaughn Sr. Correctional Center northeast of Smyrna.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. for the Delaware correctional officer who was killed in the inmate uprising at the Vaughn Correctional Center northeast of Smyrna.

Department of Correction leaders will be joined by Gov. John Carney, members of the General Assembly, and representatives from partner agencies to memorialize the life and dedicated service of Lt. Steven Floyd Sr., of Dover.

Department of Correction Chief of Community Relations Jayme Gravell said the public is invited to the service outside James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, 1181 Paddock Road, Smyrna.

Parking is available in the visitor lot.

The service will be held rain or shine, said Gravell.
