Snow closings and cancellations in Delaware.

STATEWIDE

State offices - State of Delaware offices are closed in all three counties Thursday, Jan. 4 during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Non-essential employees are not to report to work for this period. Essential employees are to report as scheduled. Non-essential employees whose shift includes hours after 4:30 p.m. should check for updates throughout the day.

State of Delaware offices in Sussex County will remain closed through 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5. Non-essential employees who live or work in Sussex County are not to report to work for this period. Essential employees are to report as scheduled.

State of Delaware offices in Kent and New Castle counties will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5. Non-essential employees who live or work in Kent and New Castle Counties do not report until 10:00 a.m. Essential employees are to report as scheduled.

NEW CASTLE COUNTY

County offices closed - New Castle County government offices and facilities will be closed Jan. 4. New Castle County facilities staff will be clearing snow throughout the day in preparation for county offices and facilities to reopen Jan. 5.

Schools - Many school districts have announced delays or closings. For a complete list, check your school's website or https://schoolclosings.delaware.gov/

High School Sports - The following high school sports are canceled or postponed today, Jan. 4:

(Boys Basketball) Hodgson v. Red Lion, Brandywine v. Charter, Mt. Pleasant v. Delcastle, MOT Charter v. Middletown, Delaware Military Academy v. McKean, Salesianum v. Howard. 

(Girls Basketball) Charter v. Brandywine, Dickinson v. St. Georges Tech, Red Lion v. Hodgson, Sanford v. St. Andrew's, Delcastle v. Mt. Pleasant, Middletown v. MOT Charter, Archmere v. Howard, St. Mark's v. Padua Academy, Ursuline v. St. Elizabeth.  

(Swimming) Caravel Academy v. Middletown, St. Mark's v. St. Elizabeth, St. Mark's v. MOT Charter, McKean v. Conrad, Newark v. William Penn.

City of Newark offices closed - The City of Newark declared a snow emergency Jan. 4 in effect until 6 p.m., and announced city offices will be closed Jan. 4. Non-emergency essential personnel should not report. Emergency essential personnel are to report as required or scheduled.

Bayhealth's Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Service Centers throughout New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties will be closed Jan. 4.

Bus delays - DART bus service and paratransit service in New Castle County are operating with delays. As the storm progresses, check DartFirstState.com for updates.

SEPTA operating - SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark line is operating with regular service.

Blood Bank open - The Blood Bank of Delmarva centers are still open in Christiana and Concord with normal hours until further notice; however, the center in Dover is closed Jan. 4.

KENT COUNTY

County offices closed - All Kent County government offices are closed Jan. 4, but essential employees are to report at assigned times.

Town of Smyrna offices opening late - Town of Smyrna offices will be opening at 10 a.m. Jan. 4, according to the town website.

Bayhealth hospitals and ER open, but some doctors' offices and labs closed - Bayhealth continues under normal operations at Bayhealth Hospital in Dover, Milford Memorial Hospital and Bayhealth Emergency Center in Smyrna. Outpatient centers in Bayhealth Hospital in Dover and Milford Memorial Hospital are open for diagnostic and laboratory services today

As a precaution, Bayhealth announces the following closings for Thursday, Jan. 4:

Bayhealth's Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Service Centers throughout New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties will be closed today.

Bayhealth Medical Group physician offices are closed today.

Bayhealth Wound Care is closed today.

Bayhealth Outpatient Rehabilitation Services will be closed.

Bayhealth Sleep Care Centers will be closed.

Bayhealth Cancer Centers at Bayhealth Hospital in Dover and Milford Memorial Hospital will be closed.

All Bayhealth community education classes, support groups and screenings are canceled for today.

Blood Bank closed - The Blood Bank of Delmarva's Dover donor center is closed Jan. 4; however, the centers in Christiana and Concord are open with normal hours until further notice.

SUSSEX COUNTY

The State of Emergency for Sussex County took effect at 2 p.m. and a Level 2 Driving Restriction took effect at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4.

Driving restriction - Gov. John Carney has issued a Level 2 Driving Restriction for Sussex County for Thursday, Jan. 4 and until further notice. The Level 2 Driving Restriction means that no person may operate a motor vehicle on Delaware roadways, except for persons designated as “essential personnel.” 

Under Delaware law, the term “essential personnel” means employees or personnel who are necessary to maintain the core functions of government and to maintain the health and safety of the people of Delaware.  The following persons are specifically designated as “essential personnel” under Delaware law:

Operators of snow removal equipment (public and private); Persons providing public utility services; Persons providing healthcare services; and Persons providing food and fuel deliveries.

County offices closed - All Sussex County government offices are closed on Thursday, Jan. 4 and Friday, Jan. 5.

DART - DART won't operate regular bus services or paratransit in Sussex County on Thursday.

Beebe - On Friday, Jan. 5, Tunnell Cancer Center and the Walk-in Care Center on Route 24 in Rehoboth and all patient care services at Beebe Medical Center on Savannah Road in Lewes will be open regular hours. All other Beebe satellite locations and physician practice offices will be closed.

Bayhealth - Bayhealth continues under normal operations at Milford Memorial Hospital, Bayhealth Hospital in Dover, as well as Bayhealth Emergency Center in Smyrna. Outpatient Centers at Milford Memorial Hospital and Bayhealth Hospital in Dover are open for diagnostic and laboratory services today.
