The state fire marshal's office is investigating the Thursday morning fire in Lincoln.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a Thursday morning house fire in Lincoln that left a 2-year-old boy dead.
The blaze, reported shortly before 10 a.m., was in the 9200 block of East Mayhew Drive off of Fleatown Road. Firefighters arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the two story dwelling.
Fire investigators are on the scene searching for the origin and cause. The victim was transferred to the custody of the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for autopsy and positive identification.
Heavy fire damage was estimated at $250,000. Seven other residents were transported to the Milford Memorial Hospital for examination. Two victims suffered from smoke inhalation. The seven injured were in stable condition.
This is the eleventh fire death in the state for 2017, compared to nine in 2016.
