Joe Biden, former Vice President and former U.S. Senator from Delaware, recently released his book, “Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose."

Joe Biden, former Vice President and former U.S. Senator from Delaware, will be the keynote speaker at the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce's 181st Annual Dinner Monday, Jan. 8 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront, 815 Justison St., Wilmington.

Biden has been traveling across the United States promoting his new book, “Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose.” Released on Nov. 14, Biden’s memoir chronicles the year following Beau Biden’s diagnosis of a malignant brain tumor. Beau, Joe’s eldest son, passed away a year later, but not before telling his father, “Give me your word that no matter what happens, you're going to be all right."

This book, written not just by a U.S. Vice President, but by a father, grandfather, friend, and husband, tells a story of how family and friendships sustain us; and how hope, purpose, and action can guide us through the pain of personal loss into the light of a new future.

Biden's book tour, which kicked off with an interview by Oprah Winfrey, will have covered 19 cities across 14 states, and Washington, D.C. by the time he returns to Delaware, with additional locations to be added for 2018.

The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce is honored that the former Vice President and Delaware Senator will keynote their 181st Annual Dinner during his time home, and Biden said he welcomes the opportunity.

“The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce is one of the most storied institutions in our state’s history," said Biden. "I’m looking forward to speaking at this year’s annual dinner and once again being at home with so many longtime friends."

The annual dinner, Delaware’s premier business event, has always been the place to be in January for high level networking with more than 950 business leaders and elected officials. It is an opportunity to mingle with your colleagues and renew old friendships.

Each year a highlight of the dinner is the presentation of the Josiah Marvel Cup, the prestigious award that honors a Delawarean who has made an outstanding contribution to the state, community or society. Past winners in recent years have included Robert J. Laskowski, E. Norman Veasey, O. Francis Biondi and Carroll M. Carpenter. The honoree is held in confidence until the dinner.
