Single-vehicle accident on Seaford Road.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday evening on Seaford Road (Route 13A), just south of Easter Lane.
The incident occurred at around 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, as 23-year-old Shyheim Kellam-Griffin, of Seaford, was operating a 2003 Mercury Marauder southbound on Seaford Road. Kellam-Griffin was approaching a slight right curve at the intersection of Easter Lane when he accelerated in an attempt to pass a vehicle. He lost control and his vehicle to spun out, overturned and collided with a tree.
Kellam-Griffin suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time. It is not yet known if impairment was a contributing factor in the crash.
A 21-year-old Seaford man in the front passenger seat of the Mercury was also properly restrained. He was transported by EMS to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted with serious injuries.
Seaford Road, just south of Easter Lane, was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated. The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues their investigation into this incident.
