Joe Startt Jr., president of Kent County Chapter 850 Vietnam Veterans of America, received a $500 check from Warren Hensley, Del Rods Car Club president, for the training of a service dog for a disabled Delaware veteran.
"This is an ongoing project of our chapter," Startt said. "We have been involved with training and placing three dogs to date and it's a wonderful feeling to see the face of a veteran finally taking a dog home to keep."
It costs anywhere from $8,000 to $10,000 to train a dog and to match it with the veteran it will partner with. The contribution was made Dec. 8 at the Kent County Veterans Memorial Park. Tax deductible contributions can be sent to VVA Chapter 850, P.O. Box 1718, Dover, DE 19903, with Dog Fund in the memo area.
