Some fun First State events to dive into this weekend

1. Inspired by strong country and R&B artists like Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and Adele - Southern Gothic songster Amythyst Kiah has a commanding stage presence.

Provocative and coolly fierce, Amythyst Kiah’s ability to cross the boundaries of blues and old-time through reinterpretation is impressive and unforgettable.

Her recent tours in Scotland and the U.K. have seen Amythyst performing for audiences at the Southern Fried Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, the Edinburgh Jazz Festival and SummerTyne Americana Festival.

Additionally, she’s performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in D.C.

Amythyst will share her eclectic musical influences at The Grand, 818 N. Market St., Wilmington at 8 p.m., Saturday. COST $17. INFO thegrandwilmington.org or (800) 37-GRAND.

2. Dover jeweler Arden Bardol’s new exhibit “Constructed Objects: 300/10,000” tantalizes the eyes with her whimsical and colorful pieces.

Her works are a mixture of polymer clay meshed with metal, ranging from pins and wall hangings to necklaces and vases.

Earlier this year Bardol was recognized as a 2017 Individual Artist Fellowship, the state’s most prestigious honor for artists, presented by the Delaware Division of the Arts.

Bardol won in the category of Established Professional Award and is the only fellow this year from Kent County.

Bardol’s new exhibit is featured at Gallery 37, 8 S. Walnut St., Milford from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The exhibit ends Dec. 16. COST Free. INFO marciareedpainting.com or 265-2318.

3. Michigan’s Akropolis Reed Quintet offers chamber music that’s accessible to the uninitiated.

Placing emphasis on audience development for new and traditional classical music, Akropolis regularly appears in unconventional settings. This includes performances in office spaces in Detroit as part of a Chamber Music America Residency Partnership this past January.

The energetic quintet will fly off the handles at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. Fourth St., in Lewes at 2 p.m., Saturday. COST $35. INFO coastalconcerts.org or (888) 212-6458.
