Dover man facing charges after Rehoboth home burglary

A Dover man has been arrested by Rehoboth Beach police after a break-in at an unoccupied home.

Department spokesman Lt. Jaime B. Riddle said that police were called at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, to a home in the first block Sussex Street to investigate a possible home burglary.

The 64-year-old homeowner told officers he had returned home after several days away to find personal items on his porch that did not belong to him. The man said someone had gone into the home through an unlocked window, adjusted the thermostat and taken food and drinks from the refrigerator as well, Riddle said.

The items found on the porch provided enough information for police to arrest 54-year-old John C. Fisher, of Dover, and charge him with third-degree burglary, theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 years of age or older and second-degree criminal trespass, Riddle said.

Hill was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $1,100 secured bail.
